History[]
The Zygons are an alien race of shapechangers who in the past have repeatedly attempted to colonise Earth by infiltration, since their own planet was no longer viable. They have been repeatedly thwarted by U.N.I.T and by the time traveller known as The Doctor. More recently, around twenty million Zygon refugees were allowed to secretly take on human form and settle peacefully on Earth under a agreement set up by the Doctor and Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, though this process has not been without its problems. Still, hopefully in the future we can all just let Zygons be Zygons.
Powers and abilities[]
Powers
Zygons can change shape to imitate any other living creature perfectly, and can even take on the memories and personality traits of their victims.
Abilities
Venom sacs in the tongue.
Strength level
Superhuman.
Weaknesses
Originally, Zygons needed to keep the beings they duplicated in a comatose state in special pods in order to maintain their shapes. Now, however, they apparently only need to do this if they wish to keep accessing the memories of the original.
Paraphernalia[]
Equipment
Bio-electronic computer equipment operated by titillating the fronds.
Transportation
Spaceships.
Weapons
The Skarasen, a cyborg sea monster which also provides for some of their nutritional requirements (they drink its milk).
Notes[]
The Zygons only appeared once in the original Doctor Who TV series (in 1975), but evidently struck a chord with many fans as they've resurfaced on many occasions in Doctor Who stories in books, audio adventures, DVD spin-offs and, of course, comics since the early 1980s. They've since returned in the revived TV series.
Trivia[]
The Doctor's former companion Harry Sullivan apparently created a gas that could kill Zygons by turning them inside out. It has never been used.
