Zoe Heriot was an astrophysicist and "Astrometricist First Class" with a genius-level IQ who worked on the Wheel, a space station built by Earth in the year 2000 (I know, I know — the story was from 1968, just go along with it). Following an encounter with the Cybermen, she joined the crew of the TARDIS and travelled for some time with the Second Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon, having numerous adventures along the way. She was eventually returned to her own time and place by the Time Lords, who erased her memories of everything after her initial meeting with the Doctor.

Zoe's first appearances in comics were in the Doctor Who Annual, but she has since resurfaced in stories in Doctor Who Magazine, amongst other places, including a rather odd cameo in the Fifth Doctor story The Tides of Time.
