Notes[]
Created in 1941 by psychologist, writer and noted feminist William Moulton Marston (by all accounts a rather odd man, who seems to have had a fascination with bondage and who lived for years in a happy three-way relationship with his wife and his secretary/mistress), the American icon known as Wonder Woman is actually Princess Diana of Paradise Island, an Amazon tasked with bringing peace to mankind (which she frequently strives to do while beating up evildoers). Though she has remained in almost continuous publication in the USA, in Britain her appearances have been intermittent in various reprint titles from several companies (notably The Flash (Thorpe & Porter) Vol 2 and The Super Heroes Monthly), and her only solo titles three editions of a Wonder Woman Annual from Egmont in the early 1980s, one earlier annual from Thorpe & Porter, and more recently a monthly Wonder Woman title from Titan Comics launched in 2016. Some of the annuals featured UK-originated text stories.
