Wireheads was a cybernetic techno-thriller series by Mark Eyles and Mike Hadley printed in 2000 AD progs 803 to 811 in 1992. A sequel series, PARAsites, was printed in progs 964 to 974. Standard dialogue: "This is the software which is going to blast through that vicon [virtual reality icon] and get us into the Morpheus complex datazone." (It looked like a guitar with 'McCartney' written on it.) One of the characters was called 'Gibson', so at least it wore its influences on its sleeve.
