Warren Girard Ellis (born 16th February 1968) is a comics writer originally from Essex. His career in comics began with a short story published in Deadline in 1990, with other early work including a Judge Dredd story and a one-pager in Doctor Who Magazine. His first ongoing work was on Lazarus Churchyard (with artist D'Israeli) in the pages of Blast! and he also contributed to A1. Since 1994, however, he has been working regularly for American publishers including Marvel Comics (including a run on Excalibur), DC Comics, Caliber Comics and Wildstorm. In 1997 he created the creator owned series Transmetropolitan, which became his largest work to date. Other notable American works include Planetary, Global Frequency and Newuniversal.
