History[]

Brunnhilde was one of the Valkyrior, Odin's choosers of the slain, centuries ago. Falling foul of the Asgardian Enchantress, she lost her memories of her real self and became a pawn of the villainess. the Enchantress took on the Valkyrie's form to bedevil the Avengers, and Brunnhilde was later merged briefly with the mortal Samantha Parrington and fought the Hulk (Bruce Banner). Eventually, after having her essence merged by the Enchantress with the insane Barbara Norris, the Valkyrie broke free of the Enchantress's control and joined the Defenders in thwarting her schemes. Afterwards, she remained with the group, inheriting the Black Knight's winged horse, Aragorn, along the way. Her life was for quite some time complicated by the presence of Barbara Norris's husband, Jack, who could not believe that "Val" wasn't really Barbara.

Notes[]

Most of the Valkyrie's appearances in British comics were Marvel UK reprints of American stories. But there were a lot of them.

Trivia[]

Due to the somewhat eccentric nature of Marvel UK's publishing schedules, Valkyrie's first American appearance (in Avengers #83) was reprinted in Avengers (Marvel UK) Vol 1 130 a year and a half after her second US appearance (Incredible Hulk #142) was reprinted in Mighty World of Marvel Vol 1 112.
