History

Tricky Dicky was a small boy who delighted in playing often rather malicious (though usually harmless) jokes on people. Due to a combination of bad luck and Dicky not being half as bright as he thought he was, however, these pranks usually backfired on him. It was eventually revealed that Dicky's father had bought a joke shop, which is where Dicky got all his props. It's not what you know...

Notes

  • Tricky Dicky had a lengthy career, beginning in the pages of Topper in 1977 (and becoming the cover feature from 1979 to 1986) before resurfacing in the Beano from 1999 to 2000 as a 'guest star'. (Readers were invited to vote for which characters would next become permanent features, with Dicky competing with Gordon Bennett, Inspector Horse and Jocky and The Three Bears. In the end, the Bears won.)
  • Tricky Dicky also appeared in BeanoMax in a strip with Ball Boy, and guest starred in the Beano Summer Special 2003 alongside Roger the Dodger. Furthermore, he appeared in at least two issues of Dandy Comic Library.
