Sinclair Tate was an ex Royal Marines sergeant turned athlete who, after collapsing due to heart disease, was tricked into accepting an artificial heart by the mysterious Mr Rogers. Unfortunately, Rogers turned out to be an operative of the shadowy British intelligence organisation Department C, and Tait found himself forced into becoming their assassin, 'Zombi Three', since if he refused they could stop his heart by remote control.
