History[]

Thrax is a character from the 2000 AD strip Bad Company. He was a bloodthirsty, cunning lunatic who was in fact incredibly intelligent. While fighting as a soldier against the Krool on the planet Ararat he became one of the first members of the renegade group known as Bad Company, led by the mysterious Kano.

While serving in Bad Company Thrax made an odd companionship with the voodoo-dressed Shrike, and had frequent disagreements with Kano. Danny Franks was at first horrified by Thrax's disregard for the lives of both allies and foes. However, as his time in Bad Company altered his view on the world, he became more and more like the ones he feared.

Thrax was eventually killed in the final assault against the main Krool base. Knowing his death was imminent, Thrax leapt down into a hail of bullets, taking down as many Krool as possible before he died.

Years later, Thrax and Kano met again on the mysterious planet referred only to as "The good planet" by Kano. Totally oblivious to the fact that he had died on Ararat, Thrax, along with Malcom and Joe Scummer (and later Stitches, Mad Tommy and Flytrap) helped Kano fight against the Frankenstein Corps, which had been killing the local villagers. At the end of the battle, Thrax decided that Kano had grown weak over the years and walked off into the mist with the only other survivor, Scummer, where they disappeared. It's later revealed that they were ghosts, resurrected by the planet's power.

Ten years after Ararat exploded Thrax was alive and well and living in a veterans' compound on Earth with Danny, Flytrap and Mad Tommy. How he had (a) survived against all appearances or (b) been resurrected was undisclosed. He was described as getting "fatter and nicer," and had developed a fondness for whist. Despite this, he soon rediscovered his love of violence when the survivors of Bad Company embarked on a quest to discover the truth about humanity's war against the Krool. During this voyage of discovery Thrax learnt that his parents had been 'mongrels' who had escaped from a 'penal planet'.

Thrax ended up going on the run with the other veterans (plus new recruits Golgotha Joe and Doctor Malarkey), led once more by Kano, because Earth wasn't quite ready to hear the real reason behind the Ararat war.
