Narrator: "Macha's blade kept the wolves in food... After the war Macha had Sláine... She gave him his first food on the tip of her sword, as was the custom."

Macha: "Let my son find no death but in battle." 2000 AD prog 339.

Roth Bellyshaker: "He doesn't look like me!"

Macha: "Because he takes after my side of the family. He's a Macha."

Roth: "How convenient. Tell me who his real father is, whore, or I'll beat it out of you!" 2000 AD prog 1979.

Slough Thruc: "Whoever your real father was, Sláine, he was clearly uninterested in acknowledging his bastard offspring. The fact that your mother never revealed his identity suggests it was a shameful and sordid affair. And that Roth was right — she was a whore." 2000 AD prog 1982.

Macha: "My name is Macha. And I am eminently severe in the work of violence." 2000 AD prog 1984.

Sláine: "It's why I rarely use a bow. Because I'll start thinking about Macha again, and what happened to her." 2000 AD prog 1985.

Macha: "Remember everything I taught you, son. Full draw is fire. Half draw is mere smoke."

Sláine: "Mother?"

Macha: "Those closest to you when they were alive live on in your mind. We just inhabit another realm of being. The dead never die." 2000 AD prog 1986.

Macha: "I was young. I was intoxicated by my power over men. They all adored me and fell at my feet. I couldn't help myself, son." 2000 AD prog 1987.

Muiread (Macha's sister, in flashback): "You saw what happened to Macha because she didn't play by the rules."

Young Sláine: "My mother was full draw. She was fire."

Muiread: "She could only behave like that because she was beautiful. I don't have her looks. That's how she was able to steal my man. But she was still my sister. Just remember, boy — those who burn brightly always burn out early." 2000 AD prog 2051.

Sinead: "Your mother has a right to her secrets."

Sláine: "And I have the right to know!"

Sinead: "No, it's not for you, her son, to go prying into her past." 2000 AD prog 2054.

Macha (in flashback, talking about Roth): "He follows me around like a dog. He's obsessed with me. The way he puts me on a pedestal is such a burden! The poor man believes everything I say. It makes it easy to pretend." 2000 AD prog 2057.
