Tara Mishra was a former nurse from Sri Lanka who joined U.N.I.T. at some point in the 1970s (or possibly ’80s) and later stowed away on the TARDIS, joining the Doctor, Rose Tyler and Captain Jack Harkness on their travels. At one point, the Doctor pretended to have murdered Tara in order to get himself arrested.
