Synopsis for "The Monster from the Murk!?"[]

The Loch Ness Monster eats Captain Britain. The reader is then told that this was in fact an android copy of Captain Britain that the evil person controlling the Monster was using for a test run. The next day Brian Braddock, Courtney Ross and Jacko Tanner, plus some other Thames University students, arrive at Loch Ness. They are going to plumb the depths of the loch in a bathysphere (designed by Brian) and search for its fabled resident using a sonar scanner (designed by Brian). Mr McNab, the innkeeper, puts a powerful narcotic in Brian's bedtime milk. Brian shakes off the effects by turning into Captain Britain, but pretends that he's been knocked out. The other students go down in the bathysphere without Brian. It starts to take on water, the cable breaks and the Monster is approaching. Brian (who apparently continued to play possum while the innkeeper dumped his 'body' in a marsh) turns into Captain Britain and saves the bathysphere. However, the Loch Ness Monster gives birth to lots of robot marines. Brian realises that the Monster is a massive robot itself. He is overpowered by the marines and taken on board the Monster.

Notes[]

Published by Marvel UK in July 1977.

Trivia[]

When Brian sees the Monster for the first time, he says, "Courtney didn't imagine it!" However, he was on the shore of the loch when Courtney, in the bathysphere, said that the Monster was approaching. He can't possibly have heard her.
