History[]
The Shepherds are characters from the 2000 AD strip Dan Dare. They were slaves of the alien Biogs and one of them took control of the ship of Commander Monday, Dan Dare's Martian ally.
When Biogs captured Dare and Monday and took them to their base in Jupiter's red spot, a Shepherd explained the situation to them (because Biogs can only communicate by changing colour): the Shepherds were originally a species of aliens living on the moon of the Biogs' planet, Zircon. The gigantic Mother Biog turned some of their species into Shepherds to gather fuel for the Biogs, and the rest of them were converted into said fuel. Despite their abject situation, the Shepherds had been brainwashed into serving the Biogs without demur and viewed them as "sacred."
