History[]

Ruth Webster is a character in the Starlord and 2000 AD strip Strontium Dog. Born Ruth Kreelman, she is the sister of Johnny Alpha and the mother of his niece, Marci. She is married to an amiable, rather old-fashioned bloke called Nigel who constantly smokes a pipe and says things like, "Steady on, old girl."

Ruth disapproves of Johnny's violent profession of bounty hunting (even though it's the only job mutants are allowed), and of the crowds of bigots who come and throw things at her house whenever he visits (as though it wasn't ten times worse for Johnny, who has to face this sort of stuff wherever he goes).

In 2180 AD Ruth's peaceful life in the small town of Charity Valley was disrupted when her brother dropped in for a visit with his friends Wulf Sternhammer (whom Nigel, at least, had obviously met before) and the Gronk. It turned out that they were hunting a 'demon-maker' called Sadan who was trying to hurt Johnny by attacking his family.

Sadan, also known as the Master of Chaos, used his psychic powers to invade the Websters' home and kidnap Ruth's daughter Marci. Even though Johnny and Wulf rescued Marci, Ruth decided that her brother was too dangerous to be allowed to visit them any more. She ordered Johnny to leave and never return.
