History[]

A prominent character in Book I of The Ballad of Halo Jones, Rodice was the friend and housemate of Halo, Brinna and Ludy in the floating housing estate known as the Hoop in 4949 AD. She was loudmouthed and belligerent, and enjoyed nothing better than needling her housemate's robot dog Toby with creative anti-robot insults, which at times came across as some sort of bizarre cyber-racism. However, her aggressive persona was a façade. Rodice had agoraphobia, possibly caused by a life spent in the enclosed spaces of the Hoop, and completely flipped out when she and Halo took a shortcut over the Hoop's roof and she was surrounded by sky and ocean. Shortly afterwards she repelled a mall gang by vomiting at them (the spray of her sputstik got caught in a draught and blown back in her face).

After Brinna's murder, Rodice and Halo went to Manhattan to look for jobs. Halo got the last job going on the starliner called the Clara Pandy. Rodice promised to get a job on another starliner and meet Halo on the ice planet Charlemagne in a year's time. However, when Halo got to Charlemagne in 4950 AD she received a call from Rodice telling her that she'd decided to stay on the Hoop.

In 4953 AD Halo had a picture of Rodice in her room on the forest planet of Vescue. In 4958 AD she used Rodice's surname as an alias when she was arrested for vagrancy. Halo still had the picture of Rodice when she was in the army (circa 4960 AD).
