History[]
RU18 was a "companion-bot", a droid which could be rented by the hour to provide companionship for the lonely (though his rather acerbic personality seemed somewhat at odds with his purpose). Unfortunately, luckless space pilot Brett I. Harding accidentally jammed the wrong coin into RU18's slot and rented him for a period of 25 years, which would potentially rack up a debt he could never hope to repay. As a result, Harding and RU18 became involved with a plot to steal a fortune in jewels from the alien Zarts, alongside would-be revolutionaries Mick and Nat and the enigmatic Lucinda. A representative of the company that had manufactured RU18 did try to repossess him, but the droid was having none of it (he was under contract), though he did allow the guy to take back his detached third leg.
As it turned out, things were not quite as they seemed; the team had been manipulated from the start by a barman who was actually some kind of cosmic wizard/fortune teller named Marvo the Mystic, and while RU18 had apparently known this, he was programmed not to tell them! The team were still together when last seen, and the reluctant RU18 was still with them.

RU18 originally had three legs, but he lost the middle one, which caused him a few problems as he had to learn to walk like a biped.
