In the far future, humanity evolved beyond the need for individual physical forms and returned to the sea, becoming a kind of red slime existing in a state of perfect peace, collectively known as the Primords. At least, until Nemesis the Warlock and Torquemada arrived; the Primords donned suits to enable them to greet the visitors, but Torquemada promptly burnt up the red slime as a fuel to continue his fight with Nemesis, and the enraged collective mental energy of the Primords, driven mad with pain, became the monstrous entity knows as The Monad.
