Castle of Horror, featuring Morbius the Living Vampire
Portman Distribution was originally a part of the Top Sellers group, but was later sold to a Croydon based company called Gold Star, run by brothers Ralph and David Gold. In 1978, the Gold brothers hired Alan McKenzie (who had previously worked at Top Sellers) to edit a line of horror comics, beginning with two titles-Castle of Horror and Tales of Terror-which reprinted material originally published in the US by Marvel Comics. Journey into Nightmare and Demon! soon followed. Their licence to produce the reprints was quickly revoked, however, after complaints to Marvel's head office from Marvel UK, who felt the deal infringed on their territory.
