Playbox was a nursery comic originally published by Alfred Harmsworth and later by his company, Amalgamated Press (formed in the meantime), for two distinct runs.
First Series[]
The original series was published by Harmsworth from 19th October 1898 until at least 1908. Strips featured included Jungle Jinks and The Little Sparrowkins, both drawn by Mabel F. Taylor.
Second Series[]
The second series was published by Amalgamated Press, from 14th February 1925 until 11th June 1955, when it was merged with Jack and Jill. Strips featured in the second series included Cheery Chummy, Wendy, Brave Joe, Tuffy and His Magic Tail, Snowdrop's Zoo, The Hippo Girls and Flips
