History[]
The flamboyantly gay Phil Austin was signed by Warbury Warriors in 1997 after being spotted by player-manager Nick Jarvis. At first hiding his sexuality from his teammates, even going so far as to hire a call girl to pretend to be his girlfriend, he eventually came out after being seen out with his then boyfriend by Scrapper Griswell. Phil was subjected to homophobic abuse by certain other players, but developed a close friendship with Scrapper, who defended him. He eventually married his long term partner, biker Lance Spearman, and the two have opened a high-end fashion store, Austin & Spearman.

Phil's story was originally one of the more hard hitting in the Striker series, but later, he was generally used as comic relief, and given an incredibly camp persona. It has since been established that this was Phil playing up to popular preconceptions for his own amusement.
