History[]
Paradox Vega, a character from the 2000 AD strip Judge Dredd, is (technically) a mutant criminal. She was born in 2122 AD and spent some time in the juve cubes in Mega-City One, possibly because she had been caught selling drugs tailored to the user's DNA (meaning that they only worked for one person). She did this with the aid of a Sov DNA scanner abandoned in the city after the Apocalypse War. In 2137 AD, Paradox moved to Texas City and made herself at home in the city's slums. Her cheerful, happy-go-lucky nature quickly endeared her to their inhabitants, who applauded her various criminal enterprises and her healthy contempt for the law.
Judge Dredd enlisted Paradox's help in 2139 AD, when he was chasing a rogue Judge in Texas City and needed to use her DNA scanner. (Official Justice Department DNA scanners had been hacked by the shadowy 'Sector Zero' organisation, and were therefore no use to Dredd.) In return for her aid, Dredd dumped Paradox in the Cursed Earth outside the walls of Texas City with a bag of rations, rather than arresting her.
Undaunted by her exile, Paradox took part in a jewel heist before returning to Mega-City One and helping Dredd to catch some drug dealers who were leaving mutants brain-dead. Although she saved Dredd's life during that incident, and provided information without which the drug dealers would never have been caught, Dredd felt obliged to sentence her to four years' encubement for her various misdemeanours. However, Paradox slipped from her cuffs while Dredd's back was turned, disappearing like a puff of smoke. (Given her earlier escapades, which included escaping from an identical pair of cuffs while in a Justice Department H-wagon, Dredd should have seen that one coming. Perhaps he did...)
