History[]
Abandoned as an infant by his mother, the mutant terrrorist Mystique, Kurt Wagner was raised in a circus in Bavaria, but was always distrusted and feared by the general public because of his demonic appearance. Saved from a torch wielding mob by Professor Charles Xavier, Kurt agreed to join the mutant X-Men as Nightcrawler, dedicating his life to protecting people who loathe him (which seems a little masochistic, if you ask me).
He has since been a member of the British based hero team Excalibur.
Powers and abilities[]
Powers
Kurt can teleport, disappearing and reappearing in a cloud of smoke that smells of brimstone.
Abilities
Incredible agility; was once able to blend into shadows, becoming more or less invisible (though later writers seem to have forgotten this); Swordsmanship.
Paraphernalia[]
Weapons
Good with a sword.
Notes[]
- Most, but not all, of Kurt's appearances in British comics have been in American reprints.
- Nightcrawler was actually the first of the second generation of X-Men (aside from Wolverine, who had appeared in a Hulk story before the team debuted) to make a significant appearance in British comics, guest starring with Spider-Man in Super Spider-Man and the Titans Vol 1 #221-223.
Trivia[]
Nightcrawler is a practicing Roman Catholic, and once wanted to be a priest.
