History[]

A highwayman active in the 1700's, Nick Jolly was obviously a criminal, but he was nonetheless basically a decent bloke, robbing from the rich and corrupt to aid the poor and needy and generally acting like an eighteenth century Robin Hood. Captured and about to be executed, Nick was saved by the alien Oregans, who transported him to the year 1973, at the same time altering his weaponry and transforming his horse, Bess, into a flying robot steed (how Bess felt about this is unrecorded and seems not to have concerned either the aliens or Jolly). The Oregans appear to have done all this purely in the spirit of experimentation, to see what Nick would do with his new life, and despite being baffled by the whole situation, he soon resumed his crusade to make the world better, acting as a crimefighter and friend of the downtrodden. Eventually returned to the eighteenth century by the Oregans, Jolly had clearly intrigued the aliens enough that they continued to periodically send him back to the future.
