Mother, a character from the Tornado strip The Lawless Touch, was an exotic woman of indeterminate foreign extraction. (Lawless thought that she was French, but that may not have been the case.) She was apparently a former criminal who had been appointed head of the European Special Corps, a shadowy intelligence agency which seemed to have no official existence. Mother blackmailed master thief Johnny Lawless into working for her, and reminded him frequently that if he didn't obey his orders he would end up in prison. However, she allowed him a certain level of independence and seemed willing to overlook his occasional minor larcenies.
