History[]
The mutant who would become Magneto was a Jewish survivor of the Nazi concentration camps whose experiences in the camps left him with what developed into a deep-seated hatred of humanity as a whole. He met Charles Xavier, who would go on to found the X-Men and the two men became friends but disagreed fundamentally over how best to get equal rights for mutantkind, with Magneto favouring a more militant response than Xavier's diplomatic approach. Magneto became a terrorist, founding the eccentrically named Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and fought not only the X-Men but various other superheroes over the course of several years. Eventually, he had a partial change of heart and joined the X-Men in Xavier's absence. He has since swung back and forth between hero and villain.

Most of Magneto's appearances in British comics have been reprints of American material, though he has appeared in UK originated stories, mostly published by Panini before Marvel's then-new owners the Disney Corporation prohibited licensees from creating new material featuring Marvel characters.
