History[]
Ludy was a supporting character in Book I of The Ballad of Halo Jones, and was the friend and housemate of Halo, Rodice and Brinna. Like everyone who lived in the Hoop she was unemployed, but she also played the dota, a stringed instrument, in a band called Ice Ten.
The band were signed by a label owned by wealthy businessman Lux Roth Chop, but this opportunity for fame and fortune came too late for Ludy. After being intimidated by the musical cult called the Different Drummers on her way home from a gig she had sold her dota in order to purchase an implant to turn her into one of them, hypnotised into a trance state by the drumbeat emanating from the chip in her brain. Her friends were deeply saddened at this waste of her musical talent, but Ludy told them that she had done it so that she didn't have to feel scared any more. This was fair enough — at the time, 4949 AD, she was only fourteen.
When Halo arrived on the frozen planet of Charlemagne in 4950 AD the bartender in the Solid Air Club was playing Ice Ten's breakout single, 'Missing Planet'.
Most of the Different Drummers were killed in the so-called Red Wednesday Massacre of 4952 AD. Whether or not Ludy shared their fate is unknown.
Ludy featured in the nightmare Halo had (about being trapped in cobwebs) on Pwuc in 4960 AD, and a cleaner on Moab was singing 'Missing Planet' when in 4964 AD.
