History[]
Leela was a warrior of the Sevateem, a primitive tribe on an alien planet who eventually proved to be the descendants of Earth colonists who had forgotten their heritage. ('Sevateem' was a corruption of 'survey team'.) Encountering the Time Lord known as The Doctor, she elected to travel with him and learn more about the universe, but eventually settled on the Doctor's home world of Gallifrey with a guard named Andred with whom she had inexplicably fallen in love after knowing him for roughly an hour. She took the Doctor's robot dog, K9, with her, but he built another one.

Leela was played in the TV series Doctor Who by Louise Jameson. Her comics appearances mostly took place in the pages of TV Comic (issues #1334 to 1360) and the Doctor Who Annuals for 1979 and 1994, though she has also cropped up in Doctor Who Magazine on occasion.
Trivia[]
In one TV Comic Annual story, a character who was clearly originally written as Leela (though in a jumper and jeans rather than her customary animal skins) was renamed "Miss Young" for no readily apparent reason. She still sounded like a savage, though.
