Fintan Joyce is a character from the 2000 AD strip Judge Dredd. The son of the late Judge-Sergeant Joyce, he was a Judge from Murphyville on the Emerald Isle who chose his career because his father had been killed by a perp after drinking on duty, causing many of his cases to be reopened. This "cost the department a fortune in lawsuits and compensation," so Fintan enlisted as a Judge "to prove that the Joyces weren't all drunken losers."

After working as a Judge in Murphyville for three years, Judge Joyce emigrated to Mega-City One in 2135 AD in order to retrain as a Mega-City Judge — something that he had wished for all his life — following the Chaos Day incident. Joyce retrained alongside Judge Caterina Pax, a defector from East-Meg Two, who reacted coldly to his attempts to befriend her but also admired his bravery. The pair helped Dredd to apprehend the so-called Goblin King in the Undercity. During their time in the Undercity, Joyce was shot and lost two of the fingers on his right hand. Since then, they appear to have been replaced. (When Dredd lost his eyes they were replaced with bionic ones, and fingers must be much easier to create artificially than eyes.)

Joyce describes his new rôle as consisting of "hard work, long hours, rubbish food," and is a trusted ally of Judge Joseph Dredd. Old Stoney-Face looks askance at Judge Joyce's sense of humour, a phenomenon more common in Emerald Isle Judges than in those of Mega-City One. However, Fintan is not averse to beating a suspect bloody in order to extract information, especially if said suspect has threatened his dear old ma. The Big Meg is clearly rubbing off on him.

While he and Dredd were on a trip to his native country, Fintan discovered that his father had been murdered by the Emerald Isle Justice Department because he'd uncovered a conspiracy. Brit-Cit had accidentally killed two hundred Emerald Isle citizens while trying to assassinate a troublesome Irish politician. Judge-Sergeant Joyce had thought that the people had a right to know about this, but his own Justice Department wanted it concealed to keep their powerful neighbour happy, so they killed him and made it look like a perp had done it. Fintan returned to Mega-City One knowing that his father was not a drunken loser but a man who had lost his life for trying to speak the truth.

Because of what Dredd and Joyce had found out, Brit-Cit collaborated with Texas City to abduct Dredd with teleport technology and make it look as if he had been killed. A severely injured Dredd was held captive in Brit-Cit and rescued by Joyce with the help of Armitage. Joyce then assisted Dredd, Giant, Rico and Judge America Beeny in retaking Mega-City One from the Judges of Texas City, who had staged a stealthy takeover.
