John Peel (born Nottingham, 1954) is a writer best known for his novels based on, and novelisations of, TV series, including Doctor Who, The Avengers and Star Trek, some of which were penned under the names Nicholas Adams, Rick North, John Vincent or J. P. Trent. He was the first author to write a full length original Doctor Who novel (Timewyrm: Genesys) in 1991, beginning the popular Doctor Who: New Adventures series from Virgin Books, and is also one of the few writers to have used the Daleks extensively, having been a friend of their creator, Terry Nation (most writers were put off by the high percentage of the author's fee demanded by Nation's estate for allowing their use). His original novels War of the Daleks and Legacy of the Daleks were particularly badly received by fans, often being cited as among the worst Doctor Who novels ever written. He also wrote a number of comic stories for Doctor Who Monthly. He now lives in America, and is in no way connected to any other John Peel, living or dead.
