John Canning was a comics artist now remembered primarily for his work on the long running Doctor Who strip in TV Comic, for which he drew many of the adventures of the first four incarnations of The Doctor, becoming effectively the definitive artist for the character's second incarnation. Towards the end of the strip's run in TV Comic, he redrew parts of old stories, adding the fourth Doctor's likeness to reprints of stories by both himself and Gerry Haylock which had originally featured the second and third Doctors. He also worked on other strips for the title, including Charlie's Angels, The Avengers, Tarzan, Rubovia, Cannon, The Dukes of Hazzard and Star Trek. He also drew for Swift and Express Weekly, and illustrated text stories in Lady Penelope.
