John Barrowman (born Glasgow, 11th March 1967) is a Scottish-American actor, singer, dancer, TV presenter and writer best known for playing Captain Jack Harkness in the BBC's Doctor Who and Torchwood and Malcolm Merlyn in the American show Arrow (based on DC Comics' Green Arrow). He has also written comics, including Green Arrow: The Dark Archer for DC and Torchwood for Titan Comics, both in partnership with his sister Carole Barrowman. He is a shy and retiring individual, clearly uncomfortable with the trappings of fame and reticent to talk about his achievements or any aspect of his personal life, which consequently remains a mystery, though it is rumoured that he may just possibly be gay.
