Sparkypeople

Jim Petrie (2nd June 1932 to 26th August 2014) was a comic artist born in Kirriemuir, Scotland. He drew 2,000 episodes of Minnie the Minx in the Beano (published by D.C. Thomson) between 1961 and his retirement in 2001, after taking over the strip from its creator, Leo Baxendale. He also drew the short-lived Fatty Fudge strip in the Beano, We are the SPARKY People! in D.C. Thomson's later title Sparky, and Sneaker in the Dandy, amongst others. For rival company IPC, he drew The Incredible Sulk for Jackpot. His 2,000th and last Minnie the Minx strip, which marked his retirement, saw Minnie saying goodbye to her outgoing artist. Petrie did, however, come out of retirement to draw a one-off Fatty Fudge strip in August 2011.
