Jak Hurley, who was usually accompanied by mates Liam or Todd, was a little boy whose automatic reaction to any form of authority was rebellion. Not actually bad, Jak was nonetheless a habitual troublemaker who caused chaos wherever he went.

Three fairly separate and distinct versions of Jak appeared in the Dandy between 1997 and 2010. The original Jak had a baby sister called Amy; one of his later incarnations had a teenage sister called Mandy. At times, Jak shared billing with his cat Spike or with his mate Todd Nolan.
