History[]
The so-called Ice Warriors were originally inhabitants of the planet Mars until it became totally uninhabitable. A reptilian species, their bodies became gradually adapted to the extreme cold of their environment, making heat lethal to them. As Mars became less and less able to sustain them, they turned their attention to other worlds, repeatedly trying to invade Earth before eventually becoming (mostly) peaceful members of the Galactic Federation. In their more aggressive periods, they have several times clashed with the Time Lord known as The Doctor, though he has also been known to have friends amongst them, including Ssard. Another Ice Warrior, Harma, was for a time a member of the Star Tigers, a group organised by Abslom Daak, Dalek Killer.
The Ice Warriors are, as their name implies, a warrior race with a fiercely militaristic culture. They appear to have a caste system, ruled by the 'Ice Lords', who wear less bulky and more flexible armour than the Warriors themselves; Ice Warriors are more or less permanently encased in their armour, and rarely leave it (to do so is apparently considered "the gravest dishonour"). The Ice Lords are in turn ruled by an Empress.
Not much is known about the Ice Warriors' culture, but one male Ice Warrior, Grand Marshal Skaldak, is reported to have commanded a battle fleet alongside his daughter. The Ice Warrior code is "Harm one of us and you harm us all," and their salute is a clenched fist hitting the left shoulder.
