The Hulk is a character created by Stan Lee for the American company Marvel Comics in May 1962. The brutish alter ego of scientist Robert Bruce Banner, created by Gamma radiation, the green (and occasionally grey) skinned goliath was introduced to British comics readers in a reprint series in the pages of Smash!, one of the Odhams Power Comics line, and it was in Smash! #38 that the first British originated Hulk story later appeared. In 1972, the Hulk became one of the stars of the newly launched Mighty World of Marvel, the flagship title of the Marvel UK reprint line, and in 1979 he starred in new, British originated stories in the pages of Hulk Comic, as Marvel UK began to gain its independence from its American parent company. He has starred in numerous British titles from various publishers over the years, in both UK originated stories and reprints. Probably his most notable titles were Hulk Comic, Incredible Hulk, the Hulk Annuals (sometimes as David Banner), Hulk Pocket Book, Mighty World of Marvel, The Incredible Hulk Presents, The Incredible Hulk Special and Rampage magazine.
