History[]
The eponymous protagonist of the Action strip Hook Jaw was a shark with a harpoon stuck through his jaw, a souvenir of a brief encounter with a foolhardy fisherman called Al who quickly became called lunch. Hence 'Hook Jaw'. Hook. Jaw. Get it? Hook Jaw's career consisted of eating a surprising number of people in a few short years between 1977 and 1985. He returned in 2016, in his own Titan Comics five issue miniseries written by Simon Spurrier and drawn by Conor Boyle, and later showed up in 2000 AD in September 2020.

Trivia[]
In the Hook Jaw limited series, Hook is revealed to be female. However, the same series also describes fictionalised accounts of the shark's exploits being serialised in Action comic, so it's likely this is an alternate version of Hook Jaw. Likewise, the 2000 AD version appears to be a total reinterpretation of the character.
