History[]

Helm was one of the Genetic Infantrymen created by Milli-Com to fight the war against the Norts on Nu Earth. An associate of the Rogue Trooper, he was killed after he, Gunnar, Bagman and the other male G.I.s were dropped into a Nort ambush in what became known as the Quartz Zone Massacre. Some accounts say that he survived the massacre only to be killed by the Norts later, in the Orange Sea, but whenever his death occurred it was ultimately as a result of the Norts' ambush and the devastating impact it had on the G.I. troops.

Rogue survived the Quartz Zone Massacre unharmed because the female G.I. named Venus Bluegenes (whom Helm loved but who secretly had feelings for Rogue) had put extra protection into his drop capsule. After Helm, Gunnar and Bagman died he he was able to remove the biochips implanted in their brains within the timespan necessary to preserve their personalities, placing the biochips in slots in his equipment until he could take them back to Milli-Com to be 're-gened' (given new bodies). Helm ended up in Rogue's helmet, acting as his lookout when Rogue and the squad deserted in order to track down the Traitor General who had caused the massacre.

Years later, Helm was temporarily re-gened and became engaged to be married to the 'G.I. Doll' Azure, but died again soon afterwards, disintegrating on his wedding day (which was held a fortnight after he and Azure first met). This was caused by a breakdown of enzyme E, a protective protein vital in the re-gening process, which in turn was caused by a virus Helm had picked up in the Neverglades. Helm ended up back in the helmet as a biochip again, and Rogue took him, Bagman and Gunnar to the planet Horst to look for the Neva antigen, a cure for the virus.

Later still, Helm, Gunnar and Bagman were re-gened as infants, supposedly with no memory of their former lives. They nevertheless ended up as adults working with Rogue again, along with Venus Bluegenes. Shortly after encountering the second generation G.I. named Friday, Helm was fatally wounded in a firefight and demanded that this time, Rogue and the others let him die in peace (see quotes).
