History
Dr. Grace Holloway was a heart surgeon who operated on the injured seventh Doctor in San Francisco in December 1999. Somehow failing to spot that her patient actually had two hearts, Grace unfortunately killed him on the table. This caused him to regenerate into the eighth Doctor, who later sought Grace out, seeming to have become inexplicably fond of the incompetent medic.
The pair parted ways after defeating The Master, who had briefly mind-controlled Grace into attacking the Doctor, but he remained curiously well disposed towards her and eventually took her on several trips in the TARDIS with him. Later, Grace worked with an MI6 sponsored genetics lab to create a human/Time Lord hybrid, something which slightly soured the Doctor's view of her when he found out. Nonetheless, he later had a vivid hallucination that they were married! Evidently, the way to win a Time Lord's hearts is to break one of them...
