Fred's Bed is a strip which first appeared in DC Thomson's combined Beezer & Topper comic in 1991. Originally titled I Wonder What's Under Fred's Bed? the strip, originally drawn by David Parkins, cchronicled the adventures of Fred when he discovered that every time he crawled under his new bed, he entered a different world. Fred's bed exploded in the comic's final issue, but the strip returned as a reprint series in the Beano in 2007. A new Fred's Bed story drawn by David Sutherland appeared in the 70th anniversary issue of the Beano in 2008, and in 2009 (the reprints having concluded) the strip was relaunched, now drawn by Hunt Emerson, in a revamped form; the bed was now a time machine, and unlike the original series, Fred was now in control of it. This last part was dropped again and Fred's travels became random once more in 2010, by which time Tom Paterson was now the regular artist. Later, the art duties began to be shared by David Sutherland and Nigel Parkinson, both of whom had previously drawn the strip at various points.
