History[]

Flytrap is a character from the 2000 AD strip Bad Company. A soldier fighting against the alien Krool on the planet of Ararat, he later decided to join the renegade group known as Bad Company led by the mysterious Kano.

At some point either before or during his run in Bad Company he lost his left arm. To stop him bleeding out an organic plant was grafted onto his arm, giving him the nickname of Flytrap. It isn't known whose idea this was, but it's so bizarre that the most likely suspect is Mad Tommy (soldier, performance artist, chirpy Cockney and amateur psychiatrist).

Eventually Flytrap's plant/arm began mutating his body, causing him to sprout vines, grass and even an extra head above his right shoulder. Despite this, Flytrap remained a joker in the company, often teasing and making jokes with the others.

Alongside Bad Company, Flytrap proved to be just as brutal as the others, often using his plant arm to tear the faces off of Krool soldiers. He also went on several scouting missions, presumably because his 'half man, half plant' appearance helped him to blend into the scenery.

Sadly for Flytrap, as the planet Ararat began to die due to the war waged upon its surface, so did Flytrap. At first his own arm tried to eat him, forcing the squad's medic Wallbanger to amputate the arm. Flytrap managed to hold out for a while but he eventually succumbed. His dying wish was for Kano to tell him what was in his mysterious black box.

Years later Kano re-encountered Flytrap on the plant only referred to as "the Good Planet." He fought alongside Kano, Thrax, Stitches, Joe Scummer, Mad Tommy and Malcom against the Frankenstein Corps which had been murdering the local settlers. Sadly, Flytrap died a second time as he was shot several times in the stomach. It was later revealed that Flytrap had come back as a ghost, reincarnated by the planet's mysterious power.

Ten years after Ararat exploded Flytrap was alive and well and living in a veterans' compound on Earth with Danny, Thrax (mysteriously resurrected) and Mad Tommy (ditto). A seed of his 'plant self' had somehow survived his death, drifted free into space and eventually planted itself on Earth. He was now more plant than human. After he and his friends, led once again by Kano, had discovered the truth behind humanity's war with the Krool, they went on the run together (joined by Golgotha Joe and Doctor Malarkey).
