History[]
Earl Reagan is a main character in the 2000 AD strip Flesh. He worked for Trans-Time, a company which using time travel technology to kill dinosaurs in the Cretaceous era. A dino-ranger, Reagan was in charge of herding animals to the fleshdozer so they would be cut up and turned into canned meat to feed the hungry twenty-third century.
Original series
During one mission Reagan made an enemy of a tyrannosaur pack leader named Old One Eye who began chasing him after killing all of his crew bar Joe Brontowski. The two fled to Carver City. There, they were forced to join forces with the downright evil Claw Carver and journey to Trans-Time Base 3 after Carver City was destroyed by Old One Eye and her pack.
When Reagan reached Base 3, he was shocked to find that the Flesh Controller had been feeding the carnivores rotten meat, working them into a blood lust. Reagan tried to convince the Controller to do something about this but was brushed off.
Unfortunately, Reagan's concerns were proved to be justified when Base 3 was assaulted in an attack led by Old One Eye. The complex was ravaged by pteranodons, giant spiders, tyrannosaurs and velociraptors. Many were killed, including Joe Brontowski and the Flesh Controller, who was eaten by Old One Eye. When fleeing, Reagan fought with Carver and broke his time machine, causing him to be stranded in time. Upon getting back to the twenty-third century, Reagan was amongst the few survivors and was blamed for Base 3's destruction.
New series
When Flesh was revived it placed a great focus on the ethical implications of Trans-Time's actions, and on the efforts made by activists such as Vegas Carver, Claw Carver's daughter, to stop them. Carver became closer to an anti-hero than a downright villain — back on the Trans-Time payroll (having been recovered from the timestream), but constantly making cynical quips about the company's ruthless profiteering and dishonesty. Although Reagan was aware that Trans-Time's work practices were morally dubious, to say the least, he went on working for them because he had grown up as a child believing their corporate propaganda — that dino-rangers were brave, good men providing cheap food for poor people. His pro-company stance meant that in the new Flesh he was more of a supporting character than a protagonist.
