Dragon's Claw was a story by Steve Moore and Dave Gibbons which ran from Doctor Who Weekly Vol 1 39-Doctor Who Monthly Vol 1 45 (July-October 1980) spanning the publication's switch from weekly to monthly frequency. Set in china in 1522, it saw The Doctor, Sharon Davies and K9 arrive at a monastery where Abbot Yueh Kuang is in league with sinister forces which have given him alien weapons.The Abbot's allies, the Bronze Men, are eventually revealed to be a stranded crew of Sontarans trying to steal a crystal to use as a transmitter to summon their forces to Earth, but they are defeated, not by the Doctor, but by the conflicted but heroic Brother Chang, who slaughters them all single handed.
the story marked the Sontarans' first appearance in the main Doctor Who strip, having previously appeared only in back-up strips without the Doctor.
