The Doctor, Clara and Fireman Sam escape into the sewers and make their way to the London Underground, where the city's survivors are hiding. They meet Kate Stewart, UNIT and a politician called Martyn Grove who wants to appease the Hyperions. The Doctor vetoes this proposal because he is now the President of Earth (internationally agreed standard operating procedure when the entire planet is being invaded by aliens). He then narrates the history of the Hyperion Empire. Kate Stewart says that most humans have been taken captive. Fireman Sam says that the nearest prison area is in Sussex. He, the Doctor and Clara go there in the TARDIS.

John Jones has been swallowed up by the Entity and thinks that he's dead. However, he isn't. He saves the day with his musical talent and flies the Doctor and Alice back to modern Hackney in a spaceship that looks like a cross between a flying saucer and a fluffy white cloud. This is just as well, because the Doctor and the TARDIS are having relationship issues.
