History[]
The man known only as Dr. Beat is a character from the 2000 AD strip Zenith. He was one of the superhumans bred by Dr Michael Peyne in the aftermath of World War II who became the super team Cloud 9. He married his teammate Jenny Ridgeway (alias White Heat) and they had a son, Robert, who would grow up to become a celebrity superhero/singer and adopt Zenith as his stage name.
Ambushed while out driving by telepathic CIA assassins who feared Cloud 9's powers, White Heat died but Dr. Beat survived — albeit horrifically injured and brain-damaged, a shadow of his former self. Rebuilt by Peyne as the near mindless cyborg killer called Warhead, twenty years later Dr. Beat was sent out to kill his own son, but a horrified Zenith killed him instead, ending his father's misery at last.

The precise nature of Dr. Beat's unique superhuman ability was never revealed. When questioned about it, 2000 AD editor Tharg once claimed it was that "he was the only white man who could dance."
