Dirty Dick (whose name probably wouldn't be considered acceptable these days) was a little lad who, despite his best intentions, seemingly couldn't even leave the house without somehow ending up utterly filthy. His good natured attitude made him likeable, but he was a constant source of despair to those around him because of his inability to stay clean.
