History[]

Doctor Catherine Gale Ph.D was an anthropologist and museum curator who frequently moonlighted as an amateur secret agent, working alongside the enigmatic John Steed as one of The Avengers. Her varied life experiences, many of them gained in Africa alongside her late husband, had left her with a surprisingly impressive skill set including marksmanship and unarmed combat (Cathy was an expert in Judo) but she never considered herself a "real" agent and frequently seemed to resent being dragged into Steed's murky world of murder, secrets and lies.

More recently, she has also appeared in Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen-Century: 2009 (as did her successors in the Avengers, Emma Peel, Tara King and Purdey).
