History[]
Born in the early 20th century, Gulliver Jones was a brilliant scientist, one of a group who created the sentient android ASH (Artificial Super Human) in an attempt to duplicate the original android Human Torch. Seriously injured by a bomb blast, Jones was saved by ASH, who who repaired his burned skin with his own combustible epidermis. Jones somehow obtained the power to generate and manipulate flames in the same way that the Human Torch did, and apparently filled in for the Torch on several missions during World War II. At the same time, he struck up a friendship with legendary secret agent Jack Smithers, which lasted for decades. After the war, Jones became an agent of S.T.R.I.K.E. (Special Tactical Reserve for International Key Emergencies), but was semi-retired by the time they were disbanded and replaced by the R.C.X. (Resources Control Executive). He came out of retirement to rescue Smithers when he was kidnapped by the evil scientist Oonagh Mullarkey, but was apparently incinerated by his own powers when he caused the robotic First Sleeper to explode. He was surprised to find himself able to reform from his own ashes, never having realised that his powers made him immortal. Jones aided Smithers and the superheroes Plasmer, Captain Britain (Brian Braddock), Captain America (Steve Rogers), the Black Knight and the Silver Surfer in defeating the monstrous Aftermath. He then apparently intended to resume his heroic career, but hasn't been seen since.
