Synopsis for "Even Heroes Bleed!"[]
Captain Britain awakes in a S.T.R.I.K.E. medical facility. Lance Hunter tells him how he, Lance, arrested Lord Hawk, dismissed Jacko Tanner and Dai Thomas, and took Captain Britain away to be treated. Captain Britain loses consciousness, his medallion glows and his eyes reveal "a dazzling display of deliriously dancing light and colour." The doctors say that an EEG shows that his brain is technically dead. That being so, they cannot understand how his heart continues to beat. Meanwhile, Captain Britain's mind/soul is battling a huge monster in some mysterious alternate dimension while Merlyn and Roma watch anxiously from the sidelines. (NB: This story is partially reprinted, with alterations, in Hulk Comic #34.)
Notes[]
Published by Marvel UK in May 1977.
Trivia[]
This episode takes place before S.T.R.I.K.E. deepened their knowledge of the paranormal and enlisted a psi-division, who would have helped them to understand what was happening to Captain Britain. Perhaps it was very this incident that showed them the gaps in their understanding and their need to improve.
