History[]
Camelot is the legendary castle of King Arthur, formerly located somewhere in sixth century England, and headquarters of the Knights of the Round Table. Perhaps the most famous of its inhabitants were Sir Lancelot and Queen Guinevere, wife of Arthur, whose love affair led to the downfall of the kingdom of Camelot.
There are seemingly different versions of Camelot in every iteration of reality. According to one account, it was magically relocated to Otherworld by the wizard, Merlyn, to become the last bastion of hope against the forces of Necromon. Later, during the assault on Camelot by Necromon's army, the brave elf Moondog lost his life defending the castle, and the Black Knight resurrected King Arthur and returned to him the sword Excalibur.
Together, the two warriors stabbed Necromon and mortally wounded him, but not before he flung the castle gate at the slender bridge connecting Camelot to the rest of Otherworld, destroying it. Its support obliterated, the entire castle crumbled and fell into yawning abyss that had threatened to end it for so many centuries. (The Black Knight and King Arthur escaped on the former's winged horse, Valinor.) With the castle destroyed, the prophecies of old had finally come to pass.
After Necromon's forces had been routed, it was proposed that Camelot be rebuilt in the realm of King Vortigen, who had generously offered his land for the purpose because (a) it was far away enough not to be easily attacked, and (b) Vortigen had a full-time job as a Proud Walker, patrolling the borders between realities, and so didn't have much use for his kingdom anyway.
