Brit-Cit is what Britain has become in the world of Judge Dredd: a gigantic conurbation covering the south of England, with too many people and not enough jobs. It is divided into different sectors. The richest citizens live in Old London Block (pictured) in sector six, where the architectural treasures of what was once London are preserved.

The legal system is similar to that of Mega-City One, consisting of Judges (controlled from New Old Bailey) with the power to arrest and sentence citizens, divided into departments such as Tek-Division and Psi-Division. Brit-Cit Judges dress like those in the Big Meg but they have lions on their right shoulders instead of eagles (lions traditionally being a symbol of Britain even though they have never been native to the British Isles), and their name badges incorporate the Union Jack. They regularly co-operate with their counterparts from Mega-City One, especially on matters relating to the Black Atlantic.

Unfortunately, Brit-Cit's Judges are deeply flawed in the ethics department, and keep doing things like trying to assassinate Emerald Isle politicians they don't like and accidentally causing the deaths of two hundred Irish citizens instead. Judge-Sergeant Joyce was killed by his colleagues when he tried to reveal this to the unsuspecting public, because Brit-Cit wanted him dead and Emerald Isle couldn't afford to antagonise their powerful, wealthy neighbour.

Judge Dredd's niece Vienna grew up in Brit-Cit because it was safer for her, but Dredd kept an eye on her from afar, reading all of her school reports. When she was abducted by British Satanists (the evil type, not the 'we want humans to be free from prejudice and search fearlessly for knowledge' type) Dredd rescued her and decided she'd be better off in the Big Meg.

Trivia[]

  • Brit-Cit's landmarks include Corbyn Square.
  • A seemingly unrelated Brit-Cit appears in the strip Robo-Hunter.
